Harmony's Backstreet Animal Farm

These are some of the other animals you might see on our farm.

We are no longer raising pups, but will still stud our male out. We currently have one blue merle female (now fixed) & one red tri-color male. Both are registered with the National Stock Dog Registry and the red is also registered with the Australian Sheperd Club of America, INC. We have also retained two pups from the last litter so you will get an idea of what to expect in future pups. One is a black tri & the other a blue merle with blue eyes.

Pearl: Maiden Female; grey & white; DOB: December 8th, 2006 Isn't she just adorable!

Not pictured:

Mama Llama: grey; 1994 model

Rebel: white w/ brown face Reg. Stud

Ambrotious: white w/ brown face; Stud

We have a few llamas but they are our pets/herd guardians. Llamas not only can be very good pets but also herd guardians, packing animals, and can be trained to pull a cart. As for the spitting part as many people ask, they don't spit unless you really tick them off. But they will warn you first by putting their ears back.

Interesting Facts:

-They are in the same family as camels, alpacas, guanaco, and vicuna.

-In South America, the four camelid (vicuna, guanaco, llama, and alpaca) are all termed "lamas" (pronounced yamas).

-A baby llama is called a cria.

-Gestation period is about 11 1/2 months.

-Breeding age: Female-18 months or older  Male-can breed at 1 year old but is better to wait till 2 years.

-Weaning age: around 6 months

Then we have the common animals such as dogs and cats. We have a total of 9 dogs and ain't no telling how many cats. If I haven't mentioned it before all our animals are spoiled rotten, from our horses down to the kittens. We almost always have kittens, so if your looking for a good mouser/barn cat, we have plenty to choose from.

We also have buffies! 2 buffalo heifers (Tatonka and Lakota-indian words for Buffalo).

Oh I can't believe I almost forgot Leonard! Is he a donkey? Is he a horse? What is he? He's Leonard, the Hinny. Hinnies aren't very common, and we've had tons of offers for him but sorry he isn't for sale. But he is hansome isn't he. Plus he is awesome let's you lay on his back, he follows you everywhere, but takes him a while to get use to strangers. Like most equine! If you look closely which you can't see in the photo but he has stripes on his legs and a jesus cross on his back. A real awesome animal!

For the rarest of the rare, over the summer we have aquired Zoey! A female Grant Zebra! We are very excited to have her! We bought her July 9th, 2005 From Dawn Leitzke in Wisconsin. It took us a while to finally buy her but it was well worth the wait.  Zebras are not like regular horses and not everyone should own one because they are known as wild animals and not domesticated yet. She adjusting well though. More pictures to come!

*Update: Everyone has been asking about Zoey. She is in training right now. Thanks to Mr. Rodger Howell and Nancy. They are just amazing with animals. She was shown some this year in Halter and is learning how to ride. Hopefully she will be pulling a wagon very soon.

*******UPDATE: For all of you who new and loved Zoey: I'd like to let you know Zoey passed away January 3rd, 11:30 p.m. she is sadly missed. She got a bad dose of pneumonia and it just got worse. She was truly a beautiful animal. She taught me alot. Here is a special thanks to Rodger Howell. He did wonders with her. She turned out to be a well mannered pet. Zoey you will be missed!

If your interested in any of the animals or have any questions please let us know. If we don't have any for sale we might know a breeder who does.
